March 31st to April 2nd, 2011 – Radiation monitor at Lumby BC

A long time ago I bought a radiation monitor (geiger tube) for my PC computer. I was in the middle of searching for a house to buy at the time and thought I could use it to determine the radon gas levels in basements of prospective houses.

That was a long time ago and I recently got it out of storage to  see if I could get the background radiation levels after hearing about the terrible nuclear reactor catastrophies unfolding in Japan after the earth quake and tsunami.

I have been running it about 24 hours a day since then and have enough data to say with confidence that the background here is about 14.5 uR per hour.

Here is a 48 hour sample plotted from 4:45PM March 31 to 4:45PM April 2
